A friend of mine recently picked up a new Gateway FPD1760 LCD Flatpanel monitor for his computer. Its a 17". He plugged it in and it gave an "out of range" error. I told him to adjust his screen resolution down from 1024x768 on his old monitor to 800x600 to see if that would work - and it does. However that is the highest resolution that the new monitor will go to. This obviously isn't right. I guess this means he needs to update his video card drivers right? I went into Device Manager but this is all that is listed for his display adapters:
No specific device info or brand info. It is integrated into the motherboard BTW. I then went onto Milwaukee PC, the maker of the PC and found that the video card is:Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
Which still doesn't seem to help, and they don't have a link for a driver download. I then downloaded an app to run a system specs analysis, and it lists the video card as:420201 -> AGP Graphics
But I still can't find any info about downloading drivers for this model of display card. Could someone help me find a link for this download?Display Adapters: | NetMeeting driver | RDPDD Chained DD |

Not much luck, not enough info. One thing comes to mind; What is his refresh rate set at? Most LCDs work at 60Hz. Though on mine, it works (or ignores) on any other rate.
You might have him try this info program. It gives a lot of data about hardware and video cards, even if they are part of the MB. If you can identify the video chipset, it might give you some other place to look.

And hopefully his MB has a AGP slot? If so, just install a video card if all else fails.
I can't figure out why the old CRT would work at 1024 x 768 with no problem, but a 17" LCD wouldn't. Did he try setting the display up to 1152 X 864? That should be native resolution to the 17" LCD as my 15" LCD is 1024 X 768. Maybe it meant it was too low, not too high. -
I cannot select 1152, the only option it gives me after that is 1280x1024, which has the same problem. I also cannot adjust the refresh rate, there is no dialog box for it. I'll give that app a shot though, thanks

YES!! I got it! I installed the 2nd package that a SIS test gave me and it works!! I am now to run in 1024x768 or 1280x1024. I can switch between 60, 70, and 75 for refresh rates. Which one is best?
Thanks for all your help! -
Sorry. It gives me an incredible amount of info on my video card.
I'll do some more searching with the info you have provided.
If you have a part number on the PC case, maybe you could email Milwaukee PC with that and see if they could give any more info.
The only other thing I can think of at present is to see if the video chip has a number and manufacturer name that can be traced to a generic driver. It does have a video BIOS date and version.
If I could find the MB supplier....?
This is a long shot, but if it has a FCC ID code on the MB, you may be able to trace that back to the original MB manufacturer. -
Just saw your last post. Good deal.
At least for my LCD, 60Hz is the default. As I mentioned on mine, you can put any number in you want for refresh, but I think it's still defaults to 60Hz, so that's what I would use.
You could check your monitor specs, but that seems to be the standard for LCDs, at least in the US. I've even set mine to 200Hz, which it in no way could handle, and I get a viewable display. It just goes back to 60Hz.
