    Somehow I don't think the bandwidth this forum uses per month comes in the $10 package ...

    Site like this requires it's own server, they start around $100+ per month. The cost is not really that much, it's the time investment in managing it.

    The software that powers this forum is free, www.phpbb.com. It can be set up on nearly any $10 per month plan which would be more than adequate if your intentions are to start your own site. Besides phpbb I'm not aware of any other forum software that even comes close that is free...

    If you do use php make sure the host offers linux servers. I made that mistake and had to have my host switch my plan.
