what BEst Tools for converting Mpeg1 into AVI(divx or Xvid)

H guys, i have been trying to convert mpeg1 into avi xvid but all the end result is that the audio is out of sync.

I used winAVI to convert mpeg into AVI, but out of sync too.

However, i always WinAVI for converting avi into DVD format and no audio out of sync but the quality not that great.

so i need help for 2 things.

1.What is the best tool for converting mpeg1-2 into AVi with great quality.
2. What tool to convert AVI to DVD format with GREAT quality & no audio out of sync.

I using virtualdub ver 1.6.11 something like that. and the funny thing that happen, when i open my mpeg file which has (640x480) with virtualdub, it turns to square. istead of actual 4x3. It's 2x2. That's wierd.

I don't know how to change it. Helps please.

Add the resize filter in virtualdub, video->filters and resize it to 4:3 like 640x480. Use lanczos3 resizing.
