I have used the search tool and havn't found what I need yet. My question is; What can I use to convert a VOB file for use in making a video in MS movie maker? On the DVD disc there are several files 3 of them VOB's, 2 IFO, and 2 BUP's. What files do I need to be concerned with? Only the VOB? And what file format should I try and convert them to?
I have tried DivxtoDVD, DVD Decrypter and MPEG Video wizard and havn't had any luck yet. Any pointers? Thanks

you can convert to dv avi/uncompressed avi/huffyuv avi with for example virtualdub-mpeg2.
or try vob2mpg if windows movie maker supports mpeg2...have never tested it.
or use the search again...

For a list of supported import formats look in WMM2 help - Getting started - Supported file types. Multiplexed VOB files such as those from a DVD camcorder or DVD recorder are not directly supported. You need to demux your VOB to video and audio to formats on that list.
Audio files: .aif, .aifc, .aiff .asf, .au, .mp2, .mp3, .mpa, .snd, .wav, and .wma

It says it supports mp2, etc... However it coverted using vob2mpg. When I try and import it to MS Movie Maker I get this message. What does it mean?
VTS_01.mpg could not be imported. An interface has too many methods to fire events from -

VOB to MPG or
VOB to MP2 or
VOB to any of the above supported formats.
Or buy a program like ULead Video Studio with AC-3 plug-in (if audio is AC-3) and import, edit, author and burn.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

Open VOB in virtualdubmod, or virtualdub-mpeg2. Save out to an AVI - what codec you use is up to you, but for premium quality I'd look at using a DV codec (~ 13GB per hour), or DivX/XviD 1-pass with either the bitrate pumped right up, or in CQ mode with a quality value of either 1 or 2. Direct Stream Copy the audio.
Open AVI in Window Movie Maker (or if you really want to get your hands dirty, Windows Media Encoder) and encode to WMV. I like the High Quality Video (large) template when I'm doing DVDs - this uses VBR video and audio. If in doubt, Google it.
