  1. Hi I'm helping Stinky on his MMC tool, but I need the help of users of the old (7.x) MMC. Please can you check out this in your registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ATI
    Technologies\Multimedia\Features\VCD\"EnableVCD2Pl ayback"

If this is in the older MMC's (7.1, 7.2) maybe it can be used? Set it to 1 please, if it's not there then can someone add the string and test? Any feedback welcomed.

  2. You didn't say what type of value, so I used DWORD. I'm using MMC 7.1 and W2K Pro, and amazingly enough, it seems to work just fine!

One caveat, though. I had installed MMC 7.5, but removed it because it just wasn't stable. (I was having to reboot two or three times a day to fix problems with the MMC 7.5 software.) So possibly there are some MMC 7.5 DLLs left over that make VCD2.0 work on 7.1.

With MMC 7.1 and "EnableVCD2Playback" set to 1, my Philip's Video CD 2.0 Toolkit demo disk works fine, even the hotspots work, so I can make my selections onscreen with the mouse. I also get the little remote with the PBC buttons. The only thing it doesn't support is Red Book audio tracks.

My VCD 1.1 disks play fine, as do my menuless VCD 2.0 disks made with Nero. (My Nero disks would not play under MMC 7.5.)

    P.S.

If anyone has gotten MMC 7.5 to work reliably with W2K Pro, let me know what you had to do.

  3. Oops. Just noticed MMC 7.1 will crash after selecting some chapters from my movie. The first and last chapters work fine, but crashes when selecting the middle chapter.

  4. Opps, yes it is DWORD, I'm glad that it works - Stinky will be too. Shame that you can't select chapters, but at least old MMC 7.x users can finally use their VCD 2.0. Anyway thanks for the help.

Well, that may not be totally true. On my demo disk, the movie chapters are three levels down from the main menu. I don't have any problems with menu items from the first and second levels. The MMC VCD 2.0 may not be 100% White Book compliant, but it's probably good enough.

I have 7.2 and have always been able to use vcd 2.0, don't know what your asking, and I also dumped 7.5 because of instability.
