    i didnt see a thread on this they are on sale for $17.97. they are made in japan, has anyone opened thiers yet ? any good? i got 1 + and 2 -.

    Yes, all of the Sony 8x media is good, + or -, Japan or Taiwan.

    Actually, they're $14.99 here.
    Sony Japan DVD+R = YUDEN media.
    Sony Japan DVD-R = TY or SONY media
    Sony Taiwan DVD-R = SONY media
    Sony Taiwain DVD+R = SONY media

    The Taiwanese is generally not as good as the Japan, but it's still quite solid performer. I'd be sure to run tests on it. Japanese media you can be lazy and not test and it'll likely be a-ok.

    I know the Sony 4x DVD-R MIJ was TY, but I haven't heard of any Sony-branded TYG02 in the US/Canada.

    I recently came accross this Sony media code:SONY08..D1. I've never seen it before. The discs I took it from are noticiably different than the old 4x 0xD code. The older discs were deep purple, these ones are a much lighter shade of the same colour. The discs themselves feel flimsier.

    SONY08D1 is good 8x DVD-R media. It's been around since last year.
