I have always used DVD-R because I've read that it is more compatible with many standalone DVD players. Does anyone know if this is still true. I usually by my media from Costco, but they are not carrying the DVD-R anymore(at least not yet). I used to buy the TDK DVD-R media they carried and never had any problems. But now they only carry the TDK DVD+R 100 pack, so I was considering getting the DVD+Rs. Anyone know if +R / -R matters anymore. TIA.

Only you can answer that for sure. Are you primarily burning to play in your own devices or someone elses. In general -R media is still most compatible but there are players that don't handle it well (my memorex player doesn't like -R but plays +R perfectly). Most modern players (built in the past few years) play either format. If your destination is unknown I would stick with -R.

I think that the + or - choice is more of a problem for your burner than your settop players. Most newer players should handle either. You can check some for recommendations for media in 'DVD Players' and 'DVD Writers' to the left. <<<

TDK DVD+R is CMC, and not that great.
Best to buy another brand with a better manufacturer.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

I have a 108 with Gradius F/W 1.08 and now prefer to use +R, output is DVD ROM which is compatable with almost all DVD players. I have not had a problem of any description. Caution, the burner you are using has to allow Bitsetting, if not, -R is your only option.

Positive. TDK DVD+R is mostly CMC.
A few MBI's too, not great media.
If it's "made in Japan" it could be YUDEN media.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)
