I've had a baffling evening last night. My 35" Sony television, which I've had for 8 years, gradually started washing out the picture, and then winked out completely. Black levels starting becoming increasingly milky, and then the picture when dark with a slight glow around the edge. I turned it off, and then turned it back on. It took a minute to activate, when it usually takes about 10 seconds. The washed out picture came back, but shut off again after 5 minutes. I think it's safe to pronounce this TV dead.
I had been in the middle of a movie which I had burned from my computer. So I watched the rest of it over on my computer monitor. Opposite problem: All black levels started getting darker and darker. I started thinking that wow, this was one darkly lit film. I shut off the DVD Player, and was stunned to see that the monitor brightness had dropped significantly. I've had this monitor (Hyundai) for less than a year, and it was fading fast. By this morning, it was too dark to use.
Both of these units exist within ten feet of each other. I'm in Southern California, where the temperature has been colder than usual, though the day was mostly pleasant. (My automatic heater didn't come on at all during the day.)
The only other possible change in the room is that I bought a large scented candle, and had it lit for a few hours.
And all this on a day when a small inheritance I was entitled to had finally cleared, and had been deposited to my bank that afternoon. This amount will conveniently cover the replacement of this equipment. (And naturally, I had hoped to use it for other newer things.)
So if this happened to you, would you find higher meaning in it? Was it the atmosphere? The candle? Satan? My bank?

Lead wick candle?
A name like DeadLily makes me question what chants you were saying over the candle? JK
My cars always seem to break down right around tax return time. The old lady says that they can smell the money.
I hope at least that the monitor is still under warrenty?
Maybe consider an exorcism (SP) just in case.IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT? -

I found out this morning that the thermostat was broken, which is why the heater never kicked on all weekend. I can't see how it could be a heat related thing. I mean at my place I only use the heat in the mornings for about 5 minutes and maybe for a 1/2 hour in the evenings, and only then when it's really cold. And I live in the northeast. Except for one particular crack in a plaster wall (which happens to be plaster put directly on the forced air ducts) I can't think of anything that's been negatively affected by the hot-cold cycling (and I have been doing this for years).
