I have a movie trailer that I have downloaded. It's got an .mpg extension.

File Info in VDubMod just says:

    MPEG-2 Information
    Video tracK---------------
    Frame Size, AR_info: 480X576, 25.000 fps
    Average bitrate: 1028 Kbps (126KB/s)
    Audio track---------------
Format: 44KHz stereo, 192Kbps layer II

    GSpot says:

    Video
    Codec-------------
    4CC: n.a. Name: n.a.
    Stat: (blank)
    Runtime: n.a. xy: n.a.
    Bitrate: n.a. FPS: n.a. Qf: n.a.

    Same for audio, too.

    DirectShow Render failed.

None of the DirectShow players played it (MPC, Zoom Player Pro, WMP, BSPlayer, PowerDVD, you name it). Only the non-DirectShow player VLC did play it.

What the hell kinda file did I land with?

    Regards.

A svcd mpeg2. It should work with powerdvd...or it could be a wrong ripped svcd from a cd and it may not work that good. You can try remux it with tmpgenc->file->mpeg tools->multiplex.

Thanks, Baldrick. I'll try this and report back.

    EDIT two days later:

I used TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 Full version to demux the streams. TMPGEnc Plus proclaimed the file to be MPEG-2 Program (VBR). Funnily, the Program couldn't multiplex beyond 04.53 minutes. Obviously, as you've said, there's some error in the stream.

Any ideas as to how I correct the errors?

    Thanks.

ukb007 - I have exactly the same problem that you are describing. Also tried demuxing and only processed a few seconds of the file.
Were you ever able to get around this?
    Thanks.

Thanks Abond! I am currently testing with avidemux as you suggested and although still not fully there, it seems like I'm getting somewhere.
    Nice little tool!

AviDemux requires a Unix-based system. Pity I'm in Windows.

    Thanks.

That looks like an outdated version of GSpot - the latest Beta (2.52) reads MPEGs much better.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Hi.

I'll download the new version of GSpot.

The AVIDemux homepage says it requires a UNIX based system. So can you please provide a link to the Windows version?

    Thanks.

  11. Have you tried running the file through the QuickStreamFix function of Videoredo (Trial version)?

    Thanks, celtic_druid, ABond, TBoneit

    I've got the Win32 version.
No, I've not tried VideoReDo; the reason was just my ignorance of it.

    Thanks again.
