When I put a converted tivo file into dvd author, the right side of the screen gets unaligned. When I put the dvd into dvdplayer the video is not centered. On the left hand side is where the center should be, then there is a line down the screen and the part that is supposed to be on the left is now on the right?

    1. I used directshow dump to extract the mpeg file from tivo form.

    2. Used DVDPatcher v106 and changed first header only Horizontal to to 720 from the original 480.

    3. I then author with dvd author. When I go to edit the file, in the preview screen, the videos right side is shortened. like the video only uses 3/4 of the allowed preview screen?

    4. I then repatch with DVD Patcher First VOB1_1, first header only, horizontal back to 480.

    5. Burn.

Am I doing something wrong in dvdPatcher? It looks fine when played on windvd. What should the setting be for the dvd? is 480 correct?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok well I just tried the dvd in another dvdplayer and it seems to work fine. Now why would the video work perfectly on one dvdplayer and then be uncentered on anonther?

I am using a fuji dvd+rw disc. The disc has played fine before with another movie on it?

I'm stumped? When using dvd author on the dvd. It works correctly on one dvdplayer, but shifts the video when it plays on another? Maybe its just the +rw disc, I didn't want to waste a +r disc for trial and error but looks like I may have to do that.....

Anyone have any ideas on my video problem? Or something similar that they had happen and were able to fix?

  3. Some DVD players do not support the 'non DVD compliant' resolution of 480x576 (or 480x480 if NTSC). Then the only way out is reencoding unfortunately...

ok. Well It looks like I'll have to stick to the shitty Sonic mydvd. It takes about 6-8 hours to encode and burn on a pentium 4 1.6GHz with 896 MB of RAM. Dvd author was done and over in under an hour. I hope someone creates something that will be able to help me with future projects....

After I edit using dvd author, I repatch it to be 480x480. What should I change it to instead? Should I keep it at 720?

    Thanks for the reply borax

I think that would be even worse...

If you have a picky player, either buy another one (nearly all the cheap china models have no problems with uncompliant files...) or use dvd author for compliant videos (720x480, 704x480) and Sonic mydvd for uncompliant footage (like 480x480).

I had a stand alone dvd player some time back, and it would only play 720 (704) x 480. 352 x 480 played a zoomed in half screen, other half of screen was a nice shade of green.
    Who knows why?? Go figure
