  1. My Avermedia AverTV card has an audio in port, but I'm not sure how I would use that for the audio in.

The AverTV audio devices do show up in the system devices, but I am unable to select it as a sound recording device because it doesn't show up in that panel:

Depent on the TV card have you should also have audio line output that gose to audio line input on sound card.
In more case you need enable Rec Line in with in the Sound Control Mixer.

  3. I'm not actually trying to watch TV. I'm trying to capture some movies from my camcorder.

My motherboard does have built-in audio and when I connect the camcorder to theline-in, I can hear the audio through the speakers although it doesn't get recorded in the resulting mpeg file.

I was hoping there would be a way for me to route the audio from the camcorder directly into the capture card's audio-in port.

  4. If your camcorder has a 1394 port , the audio will be carried in the stream to the PC, pending you have a 1394 port on the PC itself. As others have posted, you need to enable the recorder slider in the Kmixer icon. I beleive this is under options when the mixer is opened.

What the others said. Whether you use your AverTV card audio in or the audio line in on the motherboard, they both end up in the same place.

Most video capture or tuner cards have an audio out that goes to your line in of your sound card, either internally in the computer or from a line out on the video card to line in on the sound card. If you click 'Advanced' in your audio properties page, you should be able to access your sound mixer. The AverTV audio should just be your 'line in' level.

  6. Thanks for all the replies. I'm still not clear on what I need to do though.

My motherboard has these audio connections built in:

    Line in
    Speakers
    Mic in

The Avertv card has these audio connections:

    Audio in
    Audio out

So I have these three inputs I can use for audio input:

    Motherboard line in
    Motherboard mic in
    Avertv audio in

I wanted to try to use the Avertv audio in when doing the capture. The main reason is to try to get rid of an audio sync drift problem I was having with another card (Pinnacle). I was hoping that since the Avertv has an audio input directly on the capture card, it would be better at keeping things in sync.

My main point of confusion is that I can't figure out how I can use the Avertv audio in at all. It doesn't show up in the volume controls and, as you can see in the above screen shot, it doesn't show up in the list of recording devices. Although it shows up in the list of Sound Controllers, I can't see how to use it.

I have done captures using my other card (Pinnacle) by using the line in connection of my motherboard. That worked okay for the most part, but the audio would slowly drift out of sync.

I have an AverTV Stereo PCI capture card.

Just connect the audio directly to the sound card input or the LINE IN on the sound card (or motherboard). Do NOT use the audio in/out on the AverTV card.

Please note that for capturing purposes you may have A/V sync issues using the sound "card" built into the motherboard.

Better success is usually had when you are using a REAL sound card. You don't need anything fancy. The cheapest SoundBlaster card is fine here.

Exactly what AvertTV capture card is it that you have?
