    I have a strange problem that started a couple of months ago. I have a DVD drive in bay 1 and a lite-on DVD burner in bay 2. They have been installed this way and working fine for almost a year. Well, a couple of months ago the DVD's that I burn wouldn't play back in any DVD player. They play back at what seems to be 1/4 speed with no sound at all. I thought I had a hardware problem, but then I was trying to watch a commercially bought DVD in my DVD player in bay 1, and it had the same effect that the burned ones do(slow playback). In fact if I fastfoward to x3 it looks normal, but I still get no sound. I also get the same playback problem with the DVD burner in bay 2. Now, the stranger part is that when I use DVD shrink, I get it to rip the DVD to c:/DVD.......I can load those files into windows media player and they play back FINE OFF THE HARD DRIVE, but when rendered to DVD format and burned, they don't play right. I'm at my wit's end. I've changed to a new IDE cable, I've uninstalled both drives and let windows re-install them. I've un installed and re-installed DVD shrink, NERO, WMP, etc.......Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

    Have you;

    Checked that the drives aren't running in PIO mode ?
    Checked if this affects disks burned by you but played in a standalone during this period ?
    Pulled one of these drives out and put it in a mates PC to see what happens ?

    The drives are not running in PIO mode. they are running in DMA mode. No disk that I burn on my burner will play in any DVD drive anywhere. AUDIO CD'S BURN AND PLAY FINE. I can burn audio with no problem. I really feel like i have a codec problem or something. the hardware seems fine, it seems to be a software issue from what I can tell.

    i should also tell you that DATA DVD's work fine. all my backups of actual files(mp3's, photos, etc) all work fine. It's only when I try to burn a move that i have problems. This is why I think it's a software problem.
