  1. I have been reading and then more reading on how to make my aspect ratios correct etc and understand but I'm still not happy with how to get the to look proper on my television using my Elgato eyeHome. While my aspect ratios seem to be fine the movie for instance 1.85 ratio does not take up my entire screen when viewing on my widescreen television. I want to be able to encode my dvd's (purchased legally) to XVid and watch them on my television just as if I had put the dvd in the player.

While I know that DVD's (MPG-2) has a dar aspect ratio and DIVX/XVID does not how can I put my movies on my computer and view them on the widescreen( 1.78/16:9) television and have them look the same (height / width) of the original dvds. I feel a bit cheated when the letterboxing is so big on a widescreen tv. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

  2. If i understand your right - use eyehome magnifying button (which controls aspect ratio)

  3. And i forgot, always set the autosize to DVD 16:9 and press best under bitrate calculator - just to get the best result, sometimes it changes and sometimes not ( i dont know why )

  4. I actually use the aspect ratio button which changes the aspect ratio to things like actual size, 16x9 (1.78), full screen (4:3),fit to screen etc. I have noticed that when I put my output to 1080i (Component) on the receiver that when I set the fit to screen option it preserves the aspect ratio. My main question is do I need to encode with the letterbox included to get my achieved result or crop out the letterbox and fool with all of this stuff.

  5. For those of you that are having problems with eyeHome skipping when you encode movies please check the following topic for a https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=278453 and see if this resolves your problems. Let me know
