  1. Hey guys,

Just curious if anyone can help me here. I have a Sony Vaio with Microsoft Windows Media Edition. I record TV shows with my computer like a Tivo. I believe it saves the files as "Microsoft recorded TV show" or an MPEG2. I am trying to use Adobe Premier 6.5 to edit the video, but the Adobe software doesn't recognize this file type. I assume I need to convert this to something it can recgonize like an AVI or MPEG1 or something. Has anyone else run into this problem and have any solutions?

    Thanks,

You can use GSPOT to find exactly what format the TV program is recorded. If it's in MPEG2, you must have mpeg2 codec install before Premiere can edit.

  3. Looks like the file type is DVR-MS. Are you familiar with this one?

  4. I downloaded the codec for MPEG2's. But in Premier is doent show that it can open MPEG2's. It shows that it can ope MPEG's. I assume I need to convert the DVR-MS to MPEG. Any ideas?

    Thanks again

DVR-MS is Microsofts stupid DIGITAL RIGHTS move

All Microsofts MEDIA CENTER EDITION of XP contain
media recording options that record to DVR-MS

The thought at Microsoft was..this'll make it impossible to make DVD's from Television Shows.
    It worked.
No One with a MEDIA CENTER PC can actually BURN those shows to a DVD without jumping through hoops

Currently the only way to go is use the HOOPS approved by MS below:
    MY DVD software
(Microsoft allows SONIC to break out of the DVR format with three options)
    Freeware:sonicencoders.msi
    Pay ware: Sonic Primetime
    Bloated Payware: Sonic Primetime Deluxe

They wanted to make MEDIA CENTER unable to burn anything but a CD or DVD that only works on your MEDIA CENTER PC
    look at this fella's guide:

  7. My media center compter came with Arcsoft Showbiz 2. When I import a recorded file (ms-dvr) and try to move it to the time line, it says it has to convert it first. When conversion is done it creates a high quality mpeg file that I load into tmpgnec.

    Hope this helps.

What did you use to convert your DVR-MS files? The Acrosoft Showbiz 2??

Im looking to convert the files to a WMV so that I can open them into Windows Movie Maker. Any help that anyone could give me on this would be great.

  9. Yes, you import the ms-dvr file, but before you can move it to the storyboard/timeline, you are told that it needs to be converted, you are prompted for a name, and in a few minutes it is done. I believe the new file will import into Movie Maker
