Uggghhhh.... can someone give me a link to perhaps reviews of the freeware converters? I just got my DVD writer and am trying to learn, but there are so many apps... I dunno which ones to use.
I need to be able to make backups of my current DVD's as well as convert some old avi's to DVD so I can store them as well.
I know this is a 'help me, i'm lost' post but I just dont' know where to start and couldn't find any sort of recommendations at all.
I have a PIII 500mhz which I know is pushing it. I've been able to convert and burn VCD's with ease, just slow so I figure I can squeeze by with the DVD apps.

DVD backups: DVDShrink, DVDFab Decrypter, DVDDecrypter or others.
Converting AVI's to MPEG-2, TMPGEnc or a dozen or so other encoders. You will also need a 'authoring' program.
What you need is in the 'How To' guides to the left. <<<<<<
EDIT: Missed the 'freeware' part. Not many freeware encoders. Quenc comes to mind. Authoring; DVDauthor Gui. For all-in-ones, AVI to DVD, VSO DivxToDVD, THeFilmMachine, etc. Just look in 'Tools', also to the left. <<< -
I just found the Tools section, which has a kick-a** sort and rating feature.
Thanks.
