Is it possible to by-pass the CGMS flag with a Pioneer 530H DVR ..or.. alter the flag to "always copy".

DVDDecrypter can do that. Rip it, burn to new disc--it won't have the flag.

Always record in DVD VIDEO mode not VR MODE.

  6. You can alter the CGMS flag with a CGMS controller. There is only one out there that I know of. It is theh Video Filter.

Do these flags just depend on your cable company? I have the Pioneer 531 and I'm always recording movies to the hard drive from HBO and then copying them to DVDr and have yet to see a flag.

Me too. My 220, and 531 accepts all signals. Who is your cable provider? I am with DTV, but other subscribers to them have the flag enabled. I guess it's regional?

Thank you to everyone for your responses.

From everything I have read about DVD recorders I thought I was going to have a problem, however, I find my concerns were a bit premature as I can record and backup without any problems.

i believe you have to burn in dvd-vr mode in order to record CGMS protected material.
