but decrease the volume of music and sound effects.

I have hearing problems and am interested to know what the best software there is out there to remedy this (if possible).

Thanks to all for any help.

If you don't want to re-encode the DVD, and the DVD has 5.1 audio, why not just boost the center channel? That is usually where the dialog resides. You should be able to do that with your audio amplifier, if it uses 5.1 audio.

A lot of DVD players have audio modes, often one is called "dialogue" and boosts the center channel. Receivers do it too.

    Thanks folks.

But boost the center channel on what? I don't have stereo TV. I have a Panasonic stand alone DVD player/ recorder and thought that maybe a re-burn on a computer would be easier.

    Perhaps not.

It would be a pretty long process..
Read guides on how to demultiplex VOB to Elementary streams..
Open the audio stream in Adobe Encore (or any other sound processing program), and boost the center channel.. Save.. Multiplex it back and re-burn it.

I guess it would take somewhere from 1 to 2 hours per DVD.
