It took Hollywood long enough. But finally, in November, the 1938 classic film "Boy's Town" starring Spencer Tracy and Mickey Rooney will be released on DVD:

A little trivia. Tracy won an Oscar for the film. But afterwards, film execs (without consulting Tracy) said that Tracy would donate his Oscar to Boy's Town. Tracy did agree to do this but only if the Academy would send him a replacement Oscar. They did ... but the Oscar was engraved to "Dick Tracy."

BTW, though Boy's Town started out in Omaha, Nebraska, it has since changed its name to "Girl's and Boy's Town" and expanded to include facilities in several locations. And unfortunately, two of those facilities were in Louisiana and severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina:

I wonder if Hollywood could be convinced to donate part of the DVD sales revenue to help rebuild these facilities?

P.S. I sent an email to Girl's and Boy's Town, making it a suggestion that they contact the DVD's releasing company ... to see if they'd be receptive to the idea of donating part of their revenue for Katrina relief to the Louisiana facilities. Knowing that part of the money would go to the organization, it might spur pre-orders (and all orders in general) for the DVD, making both the releasing company and Girl's and Boy's Town winners in the marketing scenario.

    UPDATE

The day after I sent my email to Girls and Boys Town's PR department, I got a reply from John A. Melingagio, Director of Public Relations for Girls & Boys Town. They'd not heard of the upcoming DVD release and thought the idea of a partnership with Warner Home Video was great. He also told me they were in contact with Warner Home Video and that talks were underway. I hope this pans out.

Actually, the magazine's article writer is obviously not a research animal:

Flannery? Try Flanagan. Oh, well, I imagine the magazine's clientele isn't into historical accuracy anyway. 8)

Anyway, they're now called "Girls and Boys Town":
