  1. I don't need anything fancy, a demo version of the software would be good enough. Nothing I've tried has worked correctly.
    Thanks........

Too hard. Windows formats are tough to unlock. Same with Real Media.

Use Snapz Pro 2.0 to do a screen record of the file playing in WMP or VLC or mplayer and you can get a QuickTime file.

I'm not aware of any other ways to do it.

So FFmpegX can't do it? I would have thought it could. If you do want to get it to work, and can't find any other way of doing it, Ambrosia's Snapz Pro X will do it for you. Run it scaled down to the exact size of you source video, then play the source, and capture. Its good for .rm and .ram files too.
If it isn't broken, take it apart and find out why.

  10. Tried Snapz Pro X , but I could not get the .wma and capture window to run at the same time. Maybe I could set up an F key to run one of them; this is getting old!
mplayer runs on Mac OS10.2 ? OK

Does the file play in MPLAYEROSX?
if so you could put it into a .avi frame with mencoder and then it should be able to be converted into mpeg1 [vcd]

wmv player pro - $49 installs a QT plug-in that can decode WMVV including WMV9 and WMV HD. once installed you can drag/drop those video files into Toast and burn to VCD, SVCD or DVD.

    i've got it... works great.

someone else told me it was working so i took the plunge, even though i couldn't get their demo software working in toast.

macuser--Has this software been updated to accept/translate
.WMV3 files yet? I know when they first introduced, they
were .wmv2 only. More and More sites are using .wmv3...

ronkliem: as long as it is .wmv2 video, you can process with ffmepgx, check the ffmpegx forum.

    londor:
the $10 version or the $50 version of the Flip4Mac?
And are sure? MS DRM built into wmv3 files I thought
was the reason it could not handle said files.....

their website, btw still says they cannot support wmv3 due to the fourcc codec and/or M$ DRM.

    terryj:

I have Flip4Mac Studio but it should not make any difference since the version of the player is the same as the one you get with the $10 plug-in.

I am not that technical but since a picture is worth more than 1000 words here you go:

Check that VLC and ffmpegX recognize the file as wmv3 and neither can play it while it plays fine with QT.

    londor:
yup that is what I get in VLC and also how
my wmv3 files look in ffmpegx; neither will play/convert
    the files to anything viewable.

i will have to try out the $10 plug-in and see what it does...
