JVC DR-M10 Not filling the discs? always leaving 300mb free

Hello i like this machine but if i record a movie that is 1 hour 15 minutes i set the recorder on free settings 75 minutes. And gets free space left after the recording?

And after the recoring is complete i finalise my dvd-rw and put it into my computer using dvddecrypter then i load it into tmpgenc dvd authour.

And I see the movie is 3.8Gb or so only one time i got the disc nearly full it was when i recorded an 63 min movie in 60 min mode i had 30 seconds to go then the recording stopped full disc so i had to record the 30 last seconds on another disc and then merge them into my computer then the disc was almoust full.

So is it anything with to much bitrate for dvd 8000kb/s
or is it that the chapters take space
or is it that i record into ac3 audio 384kb/s instead of wav and only for wav the 1 hour mode get exacly one disc?

I m in PAL county so i record pal material on my pal recorder.

I use to fast forward a movie i got on vhs until end credits is ower then blanc my countersetting and rewerse my tape and then i see how long the movie that im gonna record is then i set that lenght on my recordmode, so theoreticly i shuld fill up the discs?

So is this a bug or have i missed something in the settings?
Or doesn´t the recorder record in CBR so the VBR isnt that close?

The last movie i recorded was 1 hour 25 minutes and only took 3400mb or so?

All recorders do that. For non-action movies I use about 5-8 minutes less than the full run-time. For high-action movies, I would recommend to set record mode to match the full run-time. Sports and hi-action movies just use a higher bitrate so dont try to cut corners with those two. They tend to be more tricky and you dont want to get caught short.................like yours truly

The JVC recorder (and I think other brands as well) always have extra space left even when using the presets XP, SP, LP, etc. I have gotten accustomed to this, so I set my time length for at least 5 min. less than what it should be.

Example: for a 90 min. recording, I set to FR85 instead of FR90.

Longer running times like 3-4 hours can have 10-15 min. extra space.

It depends solely on the VBR.

Sometimes a 4-hour disc will cut at 4:01 exact
Other times is can run up to 4:08

All about the content and how well VBR worked.

A 1-hour recording has greater ability for free space. A slight variance in compression can change it wildly.

JVC machines are set to fill up 4.25GB of disc. How they get there in terms of minutes is based on the VBR and content.

The VBR algorithm is the same, but content can react differently.

This if for DVD-RW/DVD-R media too.
Never test DVD-RAM extensively, as VR mode sucks.
