When I playback a DVD created w/ Adobe Encore, I can never reverse scan from one chapter into the previous chapter. I don't mean simply to skip to previous chapter. Like if I hit the reverse scan (<<) button, it will keep scanning till it hits the beginning of the current chapter which then resumes playback. Usually, it should scan well into the previous chapter. I would appreciate any help. Or maybe you can suggest a better authoring prog. Thanks all

Can you reverse scan beyond a previous chapter using a PC software DVD player or does it only happen while viewing on your standalone player to TV? I've had that happen to me even with some commercial discs.
I have a couple of Encore authored DVDs at home and I will check to see if I can reproduce your scan problem. No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD! -
Actually, yes they are imported assets. Each clip is supposed to be a chapter. I still haven't figured out how to integrate multiple clips into one title and then separate them off as chapters. Can you do that in Encore or do I have to sew them together in Premiere? I guess that's the error? So you can't scan through titles? I need more learning on titles and chapters.
If the stocks are .AVIs, what conversion rate is considered pure or the least degraded? Some programs I've used in the past such as Pinnacle has a "no compression" option when authoring a DVD. But I understand that there will always be some form of compression when using .AVIs right?
Thanks for your help folks -
Yes and yes and yes. I don't know encore enough to know if you can easily string clips together into a single title (as opposed to a single titleset). Some programs can do it, but it is never as smooth on playback as creating a single clip first. Premiere can do this for you, just watch for audio sync problems. Quality comes from a good encoder and giving the video enough data to allow it to be presented with the least impact. How much data is determined by the bitrate. There is a bitrate calculator on this site - just enter the running time and the type of audio you are using, and it will tell you what bitrate you can use when encoding. For the best quality, never use and encoder that uses vague quality settings like low medium high or a 1 - 10 range. Bitrate is measured in Kbps. and should be adjusted in this way.
