    i decided to get out my old vcd's and watch some but they wont work on my pc and i dont have any idea why, they won't even play come up in explorer or dos or anything. my dvd-rom is a Liteon DVD-ROM LTD163, came with pc, using standard xp drivers. can't understand why it wont work, it worked on my old pc. also, the cd-r is transparent when i hold it up to the light (wtf!) sorry for my severe noobiness

    You can also try vcdgear.

    Sounds like a physical damage to your cd-r. In which case, if its not showing up in explorer or being recognised at all, there's not much you can do.

    Sounds like you used poor quality media (hence the transparent-ness), which has degraded over time. Happened to me once (freebie spindle of 50-lost much important stuff--NEVER AGAIN). You get what you pay for.

    You should try ISOBuster, if it can't read it or get anything off it, probably nothing will.

    thanks people, i will try. Is maxell 700mb cd-r cheap media, i didnt think it was but oh well. will try those, thanks

    update: neither programs work, in all drives i can hear the cd spin but no media appaently, thanks anyway
