Short review of this player. Sorry if this seems a bit of topic for the forum.

I purchased this player at MP3playerStore.com. I was really looking for a portable CD/MP3 player but was lured in by the thought of being able to play VCDs.

I received the player yesterday and am sending it back tomorrow. The reason is that it produces odd harmonic notes during the playback of MP3s. The notes are very audible and sound like someone singing off key.

It plays VCDs burned on CD-Rs fine ---not as good as my Apex-500w, but passable for a portable. I had used TMPGEnc to create my VCDs that were standards compliant. The MP-2001V attempts to play XVCD (in this case 352x240 at 1700kps, 192kps 44.1 for audio). The video plays almost fluently on the XVCD but the audio is choppy ---too choppy to be useful.

In short, if someone were looking for a portable VCD player only for standard VCDs, this machine works fine. The MP3 playback is unuseable. (I guess it is possible that I had a defective model, but I believe I found a post somewhere else after I had ordered that said these all-in-one portables had problems playing MP3s).

I had purchased the "bundle" which included a 5.6" TFT display. The display's quality was poor, but watchable. I wouldn't recommend it.

Due to re-stocking fees and shipping, I'm out $50. I hope this report might be useful to someone else considering the purchase.
