  1. I use smart ripper and then DVD2AVI.

    As far as I know I am following the steps given in the tutorial.

    However, I invariably find that there is a loss in sound levels when I finally burn the VCD.

    I figure that this could be due to a setting in the DVD2AVI software but am not able to figure out which it is.

    My current AUDIO settings are:

    Channel Format -> Auto select

    Dolby Digital -> Decode
    Dolby Digital -> Dolby Surround Downmix

    MPEG Audio -> Demux

    48->48.1 KHz -> Ultra High

    Normalization -> 100

    I would be very grateful for any suggestions received and thank you in advance.

    I think you meant 48>44.1 KHz, although that's not what you typed.
    Anyway, maybe Normalization is causing you problems. I don't recommend using DVD2AVI for sound conversion, nor do I recommend using TMPGenc for audio conversion. Demux the audio to AC3 and then use BeSweet (you can get it at http://www.doom9.net) to convert it to MPEG Audio. Use the AC3->MPA button. Use the default values for such conversions and see if you have better results.
