anybody see this on qvc? I saw it today, it looks just like the ilo 04 only it has all write technology. It still has easy guider, I wonder if they are still hackable and if they ever fixed the front inputs. For only 150 bucks after shipping it seems like a good deal if it ever comes on again. Heres a pic unless the link doesnt work

  5. I just looked at the pic. You are right !
    This maybe ILO 04 !

    Solidsnake,

Confirm it records DVD-Rs. If it doesn't the ILO 04 can be purchased at Walmart for like $ 98.00

Good luck on that. It took me looking in 9 Walmarts in a huge radius to find just one. They are almost totally gone, replaced by the craptacular Cyberhome-clone ILO "05" units.

The looks are different (the 1101 and the what is posted @ QVC)... I have to agree with Lord Smurf... Looks very much like the iLo04...

  10. I went to three Walmarts here in Chicago.
Its true what Lordsmurf said I could not find a ILO 04 made by Liteon at Walmart. All were Cyberhomes.

Radio Shack has the new LiteOn 5104 for $180 on sale this month (to the 24th), and then there is also a $50 rebate by mail.

The 5104 has a stereo tuner (may hum/buzz) but it does AC3 audio encoding too. It's doing great for my S-VHS collection, so I have to keep it. A number of my S-VHS tapes suffer from chroma noise for varying reasons, and this LiteOn removes all traces of it, even better than the Philips 615 and ILO 04 did.

  12. lordsmurf,

What do you think of the Philips 615? Is the record quality comparable to the lite-on? I see the Philips on sale and was wondering if its a good buy for the $$ compared to the lite-on.

  13. I'd be interested to get a hold of the 5005X firmware to try it in an R04. Maybe the R04 can gain the features it should have had in the first place. It definatly looks like the R04 with the features turned on.

The Philips 615 is a boat anchor at best:

The 5104 I had definitely had a MONO tuner and along with the hum problem. Also won't program Monday through Friday. (Does Sunday through Saturday). I returned mine to RS.

    NEWBIE QUES -

My question is this, if anyone is familiar with this LITEON recorder and has tried to use the DVD or VCD created to edit on the PC. Is there a particular format that is suitable for editting purposes? ( I currently use Movie maker)

Just purchased this hoping to be able to copy my old home movies from tape to DVD or VCD and then edit them in WINDOWS Moviemaker.

There appear to be different output formats and I am playing around with them this weekend. First one I did was a SVCD which ends up as a MPEG2 file which I am trying to find software to convert to a DV-AVI file so Moviemaker can accept it for editting.

Then I tried a straight VCD, which creates .dat files ( the LITEON manual says the VCD record process creates MPEG1 files - but I did not get that on my finished disk, only the .dat files) that moviemaker cannot import (the .dat's) either.

My next step is to try burning a DVD and see what files that actually creates

Any input will be greatly appreciated!!!!!

    P.S.

also have questions about why I am capturing the "easy guider" screen when I start the record process from a VHS tape and how to bypass that?
I seem to capture it at the outset of my record process and then the part of the tape I want to capture pops up!

You're taking this thread off topic, it's better to start your own....

    Having said that...

Trying to edit with WMM is a bad idea. The common element in all the recorder formats (VCD,SVCD,DVD) is that they are all mpegs, even though they may have the extension dat or vob. To edit with WMM you will need to convert from mpeg, losing quality in the process. So it's better to use a program that will accept mpegs, or better yet VOB's. Capture at the highest quality (DVD at 2 hours or less) then edit the vob using something like Womble Mpeg Video Wizard.

-- Sorry about this - new to this forum and its categories - - just thought if someone else had been using this machine I could get more appropriate answers - esp if there were any quirks others ran into in using it.

Thanks ZIPPYP for the info - I may be ready to 'graduate' beyound Movie Maker soon - its just that is all I know right now.

It is a pain to have to try and convert and losing quality through all those conversions is nuts when the old home movies I am trying to copy aren't that great to begin with.

    More 'on topic' - -

I did buy this LITEON from QVC, took me a while to figure out how to set up from manual - not all that straight forward

and am experiencing some glitches in ease of use when initiating the RECORD function - - -

the RECORD process is picking up the Easy Guider screen when I manually start the RECORD process - - not sure if it is how I am sequencing the TV , VCR and Recorder itself or how I have it hooked up.....still working through it.

LITEON 5005x Manual is not all that helpful in terms of trouble shooting, nor is the LITEON website honestly.

But I am sure that I am not supposed to be picking up that Easy Guider screen when I view the Playback.

Thanks again and honestly did not think I was in the wrong place, now I know!!!
