  1. I used dvdSanta's all in one process to encode and burn MPEG-1 Video/MPEG-2 Audio files and it only had sound in the beginning of each movie(about 2 minutes). So what's the best way to encode MPEG-1 Video/MPEG-2 Audio files(what should you consider them as? MPEG 1 or 2? or both?) and what do you recommend for both encoding the mepgs and then burning? Thanks.

Is your source m1v + mp2, or is that what DVDSanta spits out? If the latter, what is your source?
@ VCD resolution, mpeg 1 video is OK for DVD, along with any DVD compliant audio, such as AC3, LPCM WAV and (for most players) mp2.
I'd think Santa has f*cked up somewhere, or the source is bad. Try to avoid "allinone" processes, since tho it's nice when it works, trying to spot problems is almost impossible.

Try DivxToDVD or http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/AVI2DVD.htm if the manual way floats your boat.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Mats is basically correct, although there are some limits on bit rate for MPEG-1 video on DVD. I think the bit rate can't be above something like 1.7 Mbps. NTSC DVD technically has a requirement that either LPCM or AC3 must be present if you only have one audio track, but most players will play NTSC DVDs even if MPEG audio is the only audio track.

I don't know anything about DVDSanta, but I want to warn you that most DVD authoring programs will reject MPEG-1 video. The only 2 programs I know of that will allow you to use it are Scenarist and DVD Lab. There may be others that allow it, but I know that most consumer authoring programs reject MPEG-1 video.

  5. My source is already m1 video and m2 audio. I won't be using dvd santa anymore because I rather things manual. A friend just told me I should try it out because it's an all in one dvd program. You say that most reject MPEG-1 video, so should I encode the video to make it into MPEG-2? or find a program that encodes it to a DVD burnable file right away? And if so would the quality be good, for example, with the programs you suggested? Thanks.

Any authoring package worth it's salt WILL accept MPEG-1 video, since it is part of the DVD spec, provided it has a max bitrate of 1856kbps and a frame size of 352 x 288. TMPGEnc DVD Author (30 day fully functional free trial) accepts it fine also.

There's no need to re-encode to MPEG-2. If your authoring program doesn't accept it, ditch the authoring program
    If in doubt, Google it.
