I was just wondering if this is a scam or if you know if this works?
Does it sound like it works?

I don't really see any practical uses for this other than to steal cable, so I doubt you'll get many constructive responses here.
Secondly, aren't there ways they can find people using these things? Theft of service is illegal and the consequences are worse than a $50 cable bill.
I would forget about this device if I were you. I read about DirectTV getting the customer records from raided DTV hacking equipment etailers and suing the people who purchased the hardware. Most/all settled out of court for $3000
Mostly it's an ethical issue

This has been discussed in the past here, several years ago. If it even works, it just delays the inevitable. The cable company eventually will send you a humongous bill because you haven't replied when you watched their pay videos. Might take a while, but it will happen.
EDIT: And yes, this is highly illegal and can cost you alot. I would also consider it warez.

Warez (discussing illegal activities).
