  1. Howdy

For a while now ive been using TMPEGnc 3.0 XPress to convert my avi files to MPEG. Ive had a few minor problems with it along the way, but i managed to sort them by reading the Sticky post at the top of the forum on "frequent problems".

This one is not one that ive encountered with this version of TMPEGnc. I encountered it with the 2.5 version.

The problem is jerky frames(sideways) in the resultant MPEG footage. I remember posting a similar message with the 2.5 versoin, but I never rectified the problem with that . It was at that point i upgraded to TMPGEnc 3.0 and never had the problem again-until now.

The only thing that has changed here (my computer) is that Ive had to format and reinstall my system recently, hence TMPEG has been reinstalled also.

I dont know what is different now, it ran fine the first time I set it up a couple of months ago, without having to alter any settings.

The only thing that frustrated me this time when I set it up was that it wouldnt accept a avi file into the interface where you "add a file" until I eventually found the "direct Show" box to tick under "options" and that seemed to rectify that error- "cannot intergrate video, only audio" message.

Back to the current problem. - Jerky sideways frames in the resultant footage - clear images but jerky - jerks appear to be on the moving objects, not the still objects.

    Can someone help here please.

  2. Your field order is wrong. Reverse the field order when you encode.

  3. Ive tried the reversing the field order to bottom field first. That is the opposite of what it was.

No good, the jerky frames are the same after encoding. The only difference is that it took 5 1/2 hrs to encode instead of 3 1/2

    Any other ideas thanks

Sounds more like framerate conversion or deinterlace errors.

Are these files you captured yourself?

From the looks of your past posts, it's more download junk. That's what happens when you don't control the video from capture to final DVD, you get crap and are forced to rely on others who usually are clueless.

When you first load the avi into TMPGEnc, check what frame rate TMPGEnc says it is before you make any settings. I've sometimes had TMPGEnc think a 23.976fps avi is 30fps. Result after encode: jerky motion.

If that's the case, frameserve it from Virtualdub rather than loading the avi directly into TMPGEnc.

I fixed the problem. Not sure exactly but I had a lot of Codecs of various types installed in my system. I beleive one of them was causing some sort of conflict with the TMPEGnc program.

After uninstalling some of them the program is working fine again.

    Thanks for your help anyway.
