I'm having a problem with converting an AVI file to a NTSC DVD. When I play the DVD in my PC, everything is fine, but if I play it in my standalone DVD player, every now and then the audio starts to stutter. Whenever that happens, I have to rewind a few seconds, and the audio is fine again (for several minutes until it starts to stutter again).

    Details about the encoding process:
I have tried it with a few different source files, some had ac3 audio, which I left intact for the DVD, and others had mp3 audio, which I converted to mp2 using TMPGEnc. The video codec was always XviD (frame rate: 23,976).

At first I used CCE to encode the files, but when the problem occurred, I tried TMPGEnc. The problem was gone the first time I encoded a file, but when I tried it again, the problem reappeared.

I hope I didn't leave out any useful info...

Does anybody know anything about this problem?

Almost sounds to me like your player is choking on either the bitrate used and/or the media. What happens when you play back on a PC ?

Are you able to try another DVD player and/or media ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Thanks for replying!

On the PC the DVD plays fine, I don't have another media type I can try, but I do have another DVD player. I will try the disc on that player too...

When you say bitrate, do you mean the video or audio bitrate? The audio bitrate of the ac3 file was 448 or 384 kbps, and when I used a mp2 file, I set the bitrate at 224 kbps. The video bitrate had an average of around 6000 kbps, with a minimum of 2000 and a maximum of 9000 (the default CCE setting). Could the audio begin to stutter even if the video bitrate is too high? Because I realise the video bitrate is relatively high, compared to standard movie DVDs...

I tried it with a lower video bitrate (max. 6000, min. 2000, average 4000), and I had almost no stutters! The only time it stuttered was one time at the beginning. Could large bitrate fluctuations also be the cause of a stuttering? Then maybe I should set the V/C value in CCE higher (currently it is set at the default value of 30)...
