I've been trying to back up my copy of Kung Fu Hustle and to my surprise it's not working. I'm using MacTheRipper 2.6.6, (which has always worked) with OS 10.4.2 and have tried every option MacTheRipper offers, but no good. I've also tried copying the Video_TS folder from the disk to the desktop and I can't even do that. It stops at VTS_01_0.VOB file and gets hung up. Has anyone else hit this wall?? Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.
Just in case, I know we're on a Mac forum, but sometimes people respond with PC based software solutions. None of that please!
Thanks!

I have backed it up successfully using YadeX and DVDRemaster. This is the DTS version I ordered from yesasia.com

I've had a couple like that, where MTR doesn't report any problems going in, but when it's finished, it freezes after the first .VOB or it appears to have ripped all the files, but they're no good. (On one, I got sound with no video on all the files except the main menu. Go figure)
In each of these cases, I was able to get a good rip using DVD Backup. -
Thanks for the replies on this. I'll give the software suggestions a try. It's the best shot I've got right now. The disk is not scratched and DVD backup also failed in the same manner.

I backed this up yesterday using MTR 2.6.6 with no problems. You may wish to select the arcoss option to force it to repair "bad" sectors. I burned it using Popcorn which compressed as needed.
You can select English as the language (it is dubbed) and turn off the English subtitles.Merlin Macuser

Wow, I thought this topic was dropped after my last reply, but apparently it was more relevant to others then I thought. After getting a couple of responses that didn't seem to solve the problem for me I moved onto the MTR forum and eventually emailed the guys there directly. For whatever reason MTR 2.6.6 didn't work for me no matter what I tried, but V. 3 did the trick!
There have been some interesting side effects however. I made a full back up copy of the film and when I played it back it was initially very pixilated and then for some reason cleared up and looked great. However about 1/4 of the way into the fim I started to get a sort of strange pixelating effect that was reminiscent of the old copy guards on VHS. For DVD's instead of the brightness fading in and out, it would go in and out of pixelation instead. Actually, I thought it was quite slick of them to come up with this. Even if you can copy the film you still get this annoying side pixelation side effect.
So then I tried just backing up movie only, which cleared up the picture problem, but this time the movie wouldn't start. I had to skip to the next chapter and then back up to the beginning by rewinding. the movie looks great, but these little glitches are funky.
I've yet to try all the possiblities with this process as someone suggested earlier to try DVDRemaster. Currently I've used MTR 3 with DVD2oneX and these have been the results. I also haven't tweaked all the settings on MTR 3 since I've only used it once. I did try DVD Backup and YadeX, but both didn't work. YZK got his copy from yesasia.com and I don't know if the copy he has is somehow different from the American version or exactly the same. That's the latest. -
almost forgot. These guys are working hard and making headway. I will send my donation. Hope others do too.
