Check out the "DVD Media" link under "Lists", to the left <---

    I'm not a massive consumer of DVD+/-R(W).

I've got one DVD-RW for testing stuff, and I burn to Ritek G04 DVD-Rs, and never had any problems.

If you're willing to pay $1.90 per disc, you can get some Japanese-made Sony +RW in full-size DVD cases at Circuit City (at least the ones I've seen are made in Japan). Sony S11 media code - check list to left. The latest Sony discs have AccuCORE which is claimed to have "Archival Reliability" and "Temperature Adaptability". May be just marketing hype, but anyway, they are sold in 10-packs, but if you really want high quality look for the ones made in Japan not in Taiwan.

This doesn't make any sense. If the disc is bad, how can it be good for data? Do you not mind losing your backups? I never understand this statement. If a disc is bad, it's bad. Don't use it. Don't buy it.

Ritek is not the worst media, but it's also not the best. YMMV.

  6. I have used Ritek +RW for over a year and it burns very well on NEC burners with very low errors. It should be RICOHJPNW11 media. Ritek is not that hot but Ricoh media is rather good.
Still a few bugs in the system...
