SEOUL, South Korea -- For some people, playing video games can be addictive, and police in South Korea said that may have cost a man his life.

Police said a 28-year-old man collapsed at an Internet cafe and died after playing the battle simulation game Starcraft non-stop for 49 hours. They said he'd barely eaten anything while he was glued to the keyboard.

Doctors think the man might have had a heart attack.

Police said he was fired from his job last month because he kept missing work to play computer games.

Aren't the Koreans also the ones who were beating/killing other people over an MMORPG not too long ago?

we must protect people from vidyu games! there should be a 2 hour time limit that people can play vidyu game. the game should automatically shutoff after 2 hours.

I'd bet he wasn't using an ergonomic (split) keyboard.

No, that's in China. This game I was referring to was HUGE in Korea about 2-3 years ago and there were lots of reports of people getting beat up or even killed over in-game disputes and trades. I think someone was even kidnapped and the ransom was an in-game item or some damn thing.

Now considering friends I have that play lots of WoW or EQ I wouldn't think they'd have time to go out and find their online nemesis even if they lived in the same town. And even if they did get that worked up over it I'm sorry to say they wouldn't be in much shape to give someone a good beating. In fact if I envision a couple of my friends that are heavy into MMORPGs getting into a scrap I'd turn inside-out with laughter.

Infant Daughter Dies as Parents Play Online Game

A thoughtless couple in their 20s who left their four-month old daughter at home while they played Internet computer games at a nearby PC café have been booked by police after the child died.

According to Incheon Police Station on Tuesday, a 29-year-old man husband identified by his family name of Yu and his wife put their four-month daughter in the bedroom of their home and went to a neighborhood PC café at around 4:00 p.m. on May 24 to play the online game "World of Warcraft.

Time flew by as the couple lost themselves in the game, and when they returned home at 9:00 p.m., their daughter was lying on her stomach, dead of suffication.

The couple told police, "We were thinking of playing for just an hour or two and returning home like usual, but the game took longer that day."

Police said an investigation turned up that the couple, who wed last year, used to play "World of Warcraft" whenever they had time.

Police said, "It's unfortunate, because the tragedy could have been averted if the couple had just left their daughter with Yu's mother-in-law, who lived upstairs from them... We booked the pair on criminal charges, judging that when you consider the situation, they were responsible for their daughter's death."

Major U.S. online game producer Blizzard, which grew famous with the game "Starcraft", produced the game to which Yu and his wife were addicted, "World of Warcraft." The game allows multiple players to form teams to fight battles and enjoy various adventures.
