  1. Will the Lite-on SOHW-1693S do the trick? It's also a DVD burner which is good backup if my NEC 2500A craps out.

EDIT: Also the drive should have good DVD-R[W]/DVD+R[W] burning capabilities, otherwise I'll just get a DVD-ROM drive.

  2. Pioneer DVR-A08XLA, if you can still find one. It's a very fast CD/DVD ripper and great CD/DVD burner too.

The DVR-A09/A10 are more full-featured drives and support newer stuff, but are riplocked at somewhere around 4X I believe.

For someone who rips a DVD-Video a few times a week, I don't think slower RIP speed is a huge deal, but YMMV.

And at ~$55.00 shipped for the DVR-110D, it's hard to beat for the price.

  3. Don't care if it's riplocked as lock as there's a hacked firmware out there that negates the riplock.

I rip DVDs only occasionally, but do rip all my CDs to FLAC.

There is none AFAIK for any of the Pioneer burners > the DVR-x08.

Plextor's latest drives such as the PX-716A are great DVD and CD rippers with the standard firmwares.
