Which is easiest when working with television programs that have been copied to DVD, VideoReDoPlus or MPEG-vcr? I just downloaded a trial version of MPEG-vcr. I copied the DVDR to the hard drive and have a series of Video-TS files. Its apparent I have to click each TS file and edit out the commercials. Then copy back to DVD. That is about three steps. Its been a while since I worked with VideoReDoPlus. They both seem to edit in the same fashion.

I know this wasn't one of your choices but TMPGenc DVD Author is the easiest for me.

Thank you for your reply. I still have VideoReDoPlus on my computer. I last used it about three months ago. I checked it out and its very similar. I think its a better program. But for me there both time consuming. I also have TPGEnc DVD Author as well. I never used it for doing this. I will try it out. I also have Nero Recode which may also do this. The trouble is I have been using them all for different things and never exploring them long enough to realize their full function. I can tell right now I am not going to keep MPEG-VCR. I dont' think I am going to try to learn a new program when I havn't learned the ones for which I already have permanent versions.

  4. Get projectx, drag all your Video-TS files (from your DVD) into projectx and demux to harddisk. Use cuttermaran or mpeg2schnitt to edit out the commercials. Mpeg2Schnitt even has a 'commercial search engine' (based on sender logo or black borders). Author the resulting elementary streams with any authoring program to a 'real' DVD.

    All this software is free!

This is by far the 'most secure' way to do it as projectx has been designed to clean up TS files while keeping sync.

There's no need to demux. Just import the "DVD Video" (using the appropriate button in the TMPGenc DVD Author main window). This takes only a few seconds to scan the entire movie and present it to you in an "edit" window. Then move through the timeline and set "start" and "end" points for each commercial break and "cut" that section out. Repeat for the rest of the breaks. No sync issues, no recoding, no problems. You may even add more TV programs if there's room on the "new" DVD (the app shows you the space that will be used on the new DVD) and add a menu.

I use this app for both DVD video and mpeg2 I time-shift using a PVR-250 card. Works perfectly every time.

If you have any notions of using VideoReDo-Plus, consider installing the latest version of the upgrade which is currently version 2.1.0.393. An even newer (394) build is expected to be released within the next 24 hours which, BTW, will enable VideoReDo to create chapter points which can be imported into TMPGenc DVD Author

When capturing video from a DVD I use DVD Decrypter to rip the video to my hard drive. DVD Decrypter can be configured to rip and present an MPEG video in one large MPEG file which I can them bring into VideoReDo for any needed cutting and trimming. I then load the MPEG into TMPGenc DVD Author for authoring. I know rumplestiltskin suggested using TDA for cutting and trimming, and it's not a bad idea. I just prefer to use VideoReDo first, especially since one can locate and create chapter points much faster.

You might also consider lurking around the VideoReDo forum.

I used to use TDA to cut commercials but have switched to Videoredo because it is frame accurate. TDA will only let you cut on 'I' frames but with VRD you can cut anywhere you want to. Sometimes the transition from commercial to program is so short that cutting at an 'I' frame will result in a funky transition when viewing the final file.

Another nice thing about VRD is that if you ever do have any audio sync issues it has the ability to get it re-sync'd.
