hey there all you smart people!

i just downloaded the trailer for the new 'V for Vendetta' movie - it's in stupidly high res (1920X1080) with apparently a dolby 5.1 audio track. it requires one very powerful computer and quicktime 7 to play. i'm looking at this and thinking: how cool would this be to see on my TV with my 5.1 system on? very cool, i would think.

anybody got any ideas about how to go about turning this file into a DVD with an AC3 soundtrack? i tried searching this site but the relative newness of QT7 meant that there was little to go on. i will, of course, try a few things myself and if i get any joy, i'll post back.

(by the by, if there's anything illegal about this activity, i apologise in advance, as i didn't know. movie trailers that are available as free downloads are effectively public property, aren't they? aww, what do i know. internet copyright law is so bloody convoluted and full of litigation that i'm practically scared to download my own email these days)

Quicktime 7, eh? my eMac at work ran a bunch of 'automatic' updates and changed my Quicktime 6 PRO into QT 7 PLAYER, then told me i had to go and re-buy my pro status. no appeal. no repreive. no chance to 'restore' my old version of QT6 PRO. now THAT'S marketing!!

thanks for the good advice, in advance.

I have no answer for you (and I don't think there is one at this time) but I will say that the above is one reason I will not download Quicktime trailers. If the studios want me to watch a trailer, it had better be in another format.

Whilst i think we can all agree that Apple And Quicktime are both akin to Satan, i'd still like to know if anybody has any experience in extracting the 5.1 from these files to turn into an ac3. i put QT7 on a PC we have here at work and right now Sorensen Squeeze is happily converting the video into something that will hopefully be watchable, but i'd still like that surround sound if i can get it.

    anybody?

  5. Try VSO DivXtoDVD, it's supposed to handle .mov files. You can also use Quicktime Alternative CODEC.

No doubt the audio is still AC3, you just need something to demux it out.
