Are these Color Fujifilm DVDR media any good?
What is the media code on these?
Sounds like a nice deal. -
My local Staples store has loads of 8X DVD-R and DVD+R's in stock. I inspected a bunch and all that I checked were Made in Japan. ID'd as TYG02 (dvd-r) and YUDEN000T02 (dvd+r). I bought one of each - may go back for more tomorrow. The only negative I see with this media is the color issue. My 30-pak's came with 10 each of orange, blue and green. The blue and green are quite dark. Even using a new black sharpie, they were somewhat more difficult to read than your typical media. But hey - that's just a minor issue.

Sure enough, I picked up a few spindles of both -R/+R and they're indeed the TY's. Excellent deal!

Staples in my sleepy little down has shelves loaded with this Made in Japan goodness. Guess WHO needed discs and left with 10 packs?
That's right, baby! I did. -
Bought two packages of the DVD-R today. Both are made in Japan. Also picked up a 100 pack of the slim-pack cases for just under $10 as well. Well worth the drive out in this heat out to my local Staples.
An added note. No sales tax in this state.TANSTAAFL -
Be careful when buying -Rs! They are intermixing Japan and Taiwan stacks that look exactly the same. I was luckily able to fish out six packs of the Japan stuff today, but I assume they are moving to the Taiwan stock since I didn't see any when I bought a few weeks ago.
You might want to confirm media ID after buying, or check that each disc says "made in Japan" on it. I have no idea what the Taiwan stuff is, but I'm guessing Prodisc or something. Definately not as good a deal.

Wow, I'm glad you said something. I was thinking about going back in tomorrow for some more packs and I can guarantee that I would have just blindly grabbed them off the shelf rather than looking to confirm where they were made.

When I picked mine up there were a mixture of Taiwan and Japan spindles, mostly Japan. Both the Japan and Taiwan spindles did indeed have the same UPC number. Bottom line, just make sure you check the spindles for Made in Japan before buying.

The mix of MIT vs MIJ is really weird. My local Staples has all Made in Japan. I checked at least 50 spindles anyway so as to alert my friends of this deal. Yet 80 miles away (Lexington KY) a relative says you've got to really scour the shelves to even find a MIJ. They have primarily Made in Taiwan. BTW - he stated the Taiwan Fuji's ID as FUJIFILM03 (-R) and RITEK...R03 (+R). He bought them anyway since he found only 2 spindles of MIJ. QuaiBoy made a good point - inspect carefully before purchasing.
Good luck... -
I bought 3 spindes and all of them are Made in Japan DVD-R . I scaned and they are TY02
-
+R Fuji Spindles here are "RITEK R03"

$9.94 for three shrink wrapped 10 packs green blue yellow.
Went back Fri. They had TYG02 -R out so I picked up 2 more.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

And in Somerville NJ, The +Rs I looked at were all MIT and the -Rs were about 50/50 MIT/MIJ.
One problem I didn't think about before buying was that the Sharpie won't give as much contrast on the blue & green as it does on silver topped disks.
Other thing I needed some +Rs so I bought a 30 pack and yup they're RITEK-R03-02, Stragely enough to me the Taiwan spindle seems to lock together better than the MIJ spindle.
I Bought a bunch of the -Rs since I hate shopping and Now I'm good to go for quite a while.
Many Thanks to opening poster for the heads up.
Cheers -
