Last week I finally bought The Iron Giant special edition on dvd. I had been meaning to pick up a copy when the first dvd was released but never got around to it. With my son now over 3 I thought it would be real fun to watch together. It was... well sort of.

During playback of the movie it exhibited some video hicups(3 second scenes would replay themselves) that didn't stop the movie from playing but was annoying to me as it must have occured about 10 times. My son was oblivious to this issue as I was going nuts. These problems were not appearing at intense action scenes or quick image changes which I use to see alot of on my old dvd player. This led me to believe that there was something wronmg with the disc so i returned it to Best Buy for a new one. However while playing back the new dvd the problems were still occuring at the same exact spot in the movie.

Dismissing this as a bad batch of dvds I asked a friend to borrow his copy just for investigative purposes and sure enough it was sthe same glitches at the same scenes. Even though this was the first problem I've had with playback of any dvd on my player(Yamakawa 288VGA, 1 year old) I have to assume something about my player is sensitive to this particular dvd. I've watched a couple of discs since last week and not one problem so I'm not so sure if my player is on it's way out.

Has anyone had a similar experience with (The Iron Giant) SE dvd or with a Yamakawa for that matter?
