  1. Has anyone tried using Mitsui 74m Gold CD-R for making VCDs or SVCDs and playing them back on the Apex AD-660 DVD player?

I ask because Mitsui has the patent on a dye they use that they claim lasts 100 years. At $1.23 each, it's a big investment, so i want to make sure they work before i get a spindle or invest in the Apex AD-660 player.

  2. Although Mitsui's dye (pthalocyanine) is patented, there are plenty of licensed manufacturers that use it.

Media longevity is a contentious issue, but most authorities agree

For (somewhat outdated) info about dyes and manufacturers, visit: http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_dye.shtml

Also, for some good insight into what really doesn't affect media life, see the "Longevity & Liability" article at: http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_dye.shtml

You'll notice they dispel the intuitive belief that ordinary sunlight will ruin a disc.
