  1. Hey guys, thanks to anyone reading this, as im totally at a loss.

    this is my goal.
to create uncompressed or DV AVI out of unencrypted VOBs from my console DVD RECORDER. Resulting in DV file size of 13gb for 1 hour as thats the size for DV per hour. I prefer to work with uncompressed AVI.

    But heres my senario.

I have a panasonic Console DVDR and have recored 3 tv shows approx. 30 mins each on a DVD-R. There are 3 - 1 GB vob files on this dvd. I have extracted them off the dvd using dvd decrypter and have them on my hd.

I wish to extract the audio to wav (the source is cable tv non digital 2.0 audio)
which I have accomplished just fine using virtualdub mpeg2 software.

I also wish to extract the VOB to uncompressed AVI or DV (avi) for editing, spllitting, converting to DVD again or to divx, or to make them compressed for handheld palm viewing. I prefer to work with uncompressed avi becasue of my skills with premier and sonic foundry vegas 4 (boo veags 5 bought by sony).

Using VirtualDub-Mpeg2 decompressing to Uncompressed AVI makes a 48gb file out of a 1gb vob.. and thats only a 28 minute video, where DV should only be about 6.5gb for a 1/2 hour video. Ive tried using the panasonic DV codecs and a few others. They either crash or produce crazy file sizes too. Now heres the kicker.

Ive also used DVD2AVI in the past and it has worked to create a 13gb avi file from a 1 hour set of vobs. Now when i used the uncompresed avi codec it just says finshed right after i start and it crashes when exit. IT WORKED BEFORE!!!

ps. i have the ACE 6.01 codecs installed.

    PLEASE HELP ANYONE

  2. have you tried the huffyuv codec? Sounds like you have all the knowledge and tools you need to accomplish your task, except you have some sort of codec conflict or something and it's just not working. Unfortunately, I don't know why. Maybe someone else does.

  4. Is a re-install of the OS out of the question? I know it sucks and it's not really a 'fix', but often it's faster than figuring out the real problem. Then just install your necesary apps first and give it a go....like you said it worked before, so something you changed in the past 3 weeks broke it.

  5. It's a technicality but DV isn't uncompressed. If you're getting 48GB uncompressed for a 1GB VOB source it's not outside the realm of reason. Still, that doesn't answer your question as to why your software isn't working like it used to.

  6. takeshi is correct. uncompressed avi could easily blow a 1gig file to 50+
