Are you using motion menu's and is TDA converting the audio to AC3? Even on my shitbag pc it only takes 15 minutes to author a basic dvd without motion menu's and not converting to AC3.

    Hi,

That's where the motion menu is under the "create menu" page on tda. You may have it selected by mistake. Doing motion menus make the selected video move in the chapter preview window. It takes a long time to process that.

I can't remember what the setting is called, but when you loaded the DVD Video did you let TDA copy it to its own file? It says something like "a DVD drive is much slower than a Hard Drive, performance will improve if you let me copy it to <x> location on the HDD".

I've found that everything goes much faster that way, rather than trying to run it straight off of the DVD. Plus, how large is the TDA output file? If it is 7 or 8 gigs it will take awhile.
    My gear:

    - JVC HR-S9911U SVHS VCR
    - Datavideo TBC-1000
    - JVC DR-M10 DVD writer
    - Sony Steadyshot DCR-TRV340 NTSC Digital8 Camcorder

Out of interest how long did it take DVD Shrink to shrink your original DVD's?

  9. I think dvdshrink took about 20mins to shrink the 2 movies in re-author mode

  10. Have you checked to see what's running in the background. You may have something running which is using to much system resources. You could also check to see if your hard drives are running in dma or pio mode. I use TDA a lot and it has never taken that long.

Just in case you missed my reply in your other thread ...

It takes me about 20-25 minutes, every time. Motion menus take a little longer. Then again, I do have a P4 3.0 w/ 1GB RAM

I'd suggest that there's something dodgy with either your install or your PC. Maybe your hard drive needs defragmenting ... maybe you should disable all unneeded services / CPU hogs ... depending on how your HDDs are set up, have your source on one HDD and output to the other ... maybe a fresh install of XP will speed everything up ...
    If in doubt, Google it.
