today is mp3's 10th birthday.

i remember hearing about mp3 back in the early 90's.. there was a television show on the discovery channel called "beyond 2000" that showed futuristic space age technology.. they described mp3 by saying that it basically removed the sound frequencies that humans cant hear.. the guy was touting how great and skip-proof it was.. he even had a hand held mp3 player that he was bashing against his other hand, without a skip.. and the sound quality was just as good as the original recording.. i think it was between 1991 & 1993 that i saw this..
my first mp3 was "marilyn manson - man that you fear", a girl in singapore sent it to me in 1996.
i bought a genica mp3 cd player, the first mp3 cd player, back during 1998 or 1999.. it was pretty cool at the time.. it cost around $100.. i was the coolest kid in town at the time.. well not really..
lately i've been thinking of mp3 devices that would be pretty cool.. a built in touch screen inside a vehicle that accessed a removable harddrive (within a caddy).. you could hook up the hdd to your computer via usb 2.0 or firewire to add additional music..
an mp3 jukebox (like a real jukebox) would be cool too..
as of now, i've got about 160gb worth of mp3's, about 120gb of that is on dvd-r's, tucked in the closet..
share your mp3 stories.. hooray

Hi,
ALL HAIL MPEG AUDIO LAYER 3!!!
I bet you if you asked a 100 people at random only 10 of them would know what mp3 stood for. And probably only 3 of those 10 would know that mpeg stands for Motion Pictures Expert Group!

Better make that 9 out of 100. MP3 stands for mpeg1 audio layer 3.
