Hi all![]()
I'm attempting to capture a VHS (about 5 generation, the copy of a copy of a copy...) to my AIW card and the picture looks very distorted. I know its not MV or Tracking. The video plays quite good on my TV but look horrible on my computer. There are horizontal lines moving across the screen that also distorts the image. Very unstable. Kind of horizontal jitter. I tried many things...different video card (bt878), different VCR but always looks like crap![]()
I want the cheapest way to solve the problem. I'm confused as to whether I should invest in a S-VHS VCR or Standalone DVD Recorder.
- Would a S-VHS help this?
- I understand that DVD Recorder is nothing more than an integrated capture card, so.... would a DVD burner help this?
Any answers or other suggestions would be sincerely appreciated. Many thanks.![]()

You need a time base corrector (TBC).
He's a liar and a murderer, and I say that with all due respect. -
Adobe Premiere can help with some photshop here and there. Can make it look a little better. Boy that is a real 5th generation vhs.......

That double image is due to the capture program attempting a blend deinterlace. What capture program are you using?
Turn off deinterlace, capture interlaced instead.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

I hate the recording quality of the unit, but the Panasonic ES10 DVD recorder sync filters would likely fix this. Pass signal through DVD recorder and into the ATI card.
A JVC S-VHS unit (high end, with DNR/TBC) might fix it.
A standalone TBC will not fix it.
Oh, and read some ATI MMC guides. What you're doing now is wrong. It's obviously deinterlaced.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

Thanks for all the help!
This is driving me crazy
video example:
problema.mpg
I forgot to say, it dosent happen through the whole tape, just every few minutes. By the way, I'm using virtualdub (without any de-interlacer filter)... What am i doing wrong? -
no guaruntees, but you can TRY messing with video filters in virtaldub......a TBC MAY help.....slightly, and you would need a rather high end one.....all in all, i think its the source itself.......that means you may not be able to fix it completly.......i did take a look at the mpeg ya posted, and im gonna mess with various filters with vdub, tmpgenc, ect.........i will let ya know what (if anything) i come up with

Filters won't fix this. Software won't help.
TBC, plain TBC, won't fix this.
This must be fixed in hardware, either with the built-in VCR TBCs, or with sync filters.
You should use ATI MMC if you can.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)
