1st. Yes I own all dvd's I back up.
My backup software was working great...then I did 2 things.
1. After having a problem with my iPod Apple had me reset my mac by holding the power button while it booted up (or something...I'm fussy now).
2. Upgraded to Tiger
Now my DVD burner and software creates backups that do not play in my DVD player...I get a message about it being the wrong region. There has to be a way to reset my DVD's Region setting which is now set to the region where mini mac's are made. I don't want to have to use another backup software. I use fast dvd copy 3.5.

Check your prefs for DVD Copy. You've may have it set to create discs for the wrong region. Assuming you live in the US, the discs you play (and want to create from the originals) are Region 1 (or "all-region", if that software permits such a choice).
Do not keep changing the region code of your burner. There is a finite limit and, if you use the last permissible change to set it to anything other than Region 1, you're hosed and will have to swap out your burner for a new one.
Re-reading your post, it is possible that you've inserted a disc from another region in your burner (which would have prompted you to change the region on the burner in order to play it). Be careful (read above paragraph). -
The preferences from the menu when you have the software open does not have anything to set.
I also could not find any preference in:
System/Library/PreferencePanes
User/Library/Preferences
Not possible that I got hold of a disk from another region. The original(s) work in the DVD player.
The Mini-Mac came with a superdrive
I later put in a duel-layer drive
Both drives worked in days gone by...now neither works.
I have not changed the region setting...this is my question...how can I change the setting? When I swap DVD burners I get no messages to choose. -
Here's what the DVD Player Help says:
"Changing the region code of your DVD drive
Many DVD discs include a region code. The first time you play one of these discs, your DVD drive is set to the region code of the disc. The drive's region code restricts DVD Player to playing discs with the same region code or with no region code.
Generally, the region code of your DVD drive matches the region code of the DVD discs available in the region where you live. However, if you insert a disc with a different region code from the one set for your DVD drive, a dialog appears to let you change your drive's region code.
You can only change the region code of your DVD drive five times. After that, the region code is set permanently and you cannot change it.
You should only change the region code of your DVD drive if you plan to play only discs with the new region code in the future."
You might want to try doing an "archive & install" (preserve users & network settings). It is possible that some software component has been hosed.
When you put in a Region 1 DVD (from the store), does it play properly?
