I am totally new to this.
I have bought a new Packard bell iXtreme 1500DVR system. It consists or 1.5GHz Intel, 256 RDRAM, 60 Gb 7200 rpm HD, Geforce2 MX graphics card, Sound Blaster Live 1024, Pan-European TV Tuner PCI Card -- Flyvideo (has got composite video input), it has a network card and a firewire card, sony CDROM and a Pioneer DVR-103 DVD-R Drive (its a DVD-RW drive).
The software bundled with it are : Power VCR (to capture video), Ulead Video Studio 5.0 SE, PowerDVD, MyDVD, Prassi PrimoDVD (DVD burning). I also have Nero 5.
I have tried to capture my home videos using the capture card (composite video in) using the 2 software I have. I tried different settings (mpeg1, mpeg2 etc etc), but the quality of video captured is not good. I think the capture card Lifeview Flyvideo is not that good. Has anyone any experience with this card, or combination of the hardware and software I have. My aim is to same my home videos on to CD. Most of the videos I have are on VHS tapes. Thanks in advance.

Windows I'm guessing??
Try this scenareo,
Try to capture to your memory (not disk)if you can.Make small clips and join them later (editing)
Set your capture up as an AVI.
Limit capture file size to what you have available by half.
Set compression to "No compression" or "full frames no re-compression".
Set your Video Capture "Image Dimension" to 256 x 192 pix.Any larger will cause Dropped frames!
Set Image format to YVU or YUY. using RGB usualy causes dropped frames!
when you have what you want you can then edit and convert formats to what ever you wish.
Just my idea.
