    Hi
Do you have either of these options turned on when starting the backup ??

Just having the "perform deep analysis" turned on will make it go through twice for encoding to make the video quality better, which i would only use if it is being compressed alot.....

    Encoding 2 times? What's that?

I'm not aware of it doing it more than once. Perhaps you mean the analyzing and encoding passes. It needs to do both.

Edit - It encodes twice? Deep analysis takes much longer but is worth it if the compression level is high.

It is analysing, then encoding. If you watch the preview then yes, it does go through the movie twice. The first time is the analysis phase, looking at how best to reduce the size, the second is the actually encoding. You can turn off the analysis phase, however quality suffers for it. Shrink is fast enough that you should always use deep analysis and AEC when shrinking, even if it is a small shrink. If you are that impatient, I'd suggest buying two copies of the DVD instead so you have an instant backup.

  6. I'm with guns1inger...I always do a deep analysis then use Sharp AEC for compressions and it only takes at max about an hour and 30 minutes for the whole process. That's not bad at all and the results are perfect enough for backups.
