I was wanting to buy a NEC 3520A burner for an old computer I have, but dont know if it would work. I have an old Compaq Deskpro (333mhz) with 164KB ram and 6G hard drive. Would a dvd burner work on such an old pc? I cant find anywhere where it tells the system requirements.

    Thanks for your help.

  2. The DVD burner will work on any pc; the bottleneck is your CPU, RAM, and hard drive
I suggest that u invest in a new hard drive and RAM

get the 3540A from newegg.com .its cheaper than the 3520A

You certainly need a new hard drive. 6GB is not enough for backing up dvds.

Thanks guys for the help. A new hard drive is a must for sure. Does these dvd burners come with burning software or software to play dvd's on the pc. Like power dvd for playing and nero for burning?

    Thanks again

Depends on the dvd burner. However, any OEM burner will not come with any software. It will need to be a retail version.

Or you can purchase software seperately.

  7. My Nec 2500A works fine on a PII 300 Mhz.

For an old CPU, use PowerDVD 4 or lower (not the 5 and absolutely not the 6).

For burning Nero 6 is excellent.
