This is actually the second dvd burner this has happened to. my problem is that my dvd-r drive no longer burns the way it should. when burning it shows the max speed as 3.2x but it does manage to hit 8 like it should but its not instant it takes awhile. it reaches 3.9 slows down begins to read the drive (you know instead of the light staying red on the front meaning its burning it turns yellow) goes up to 5.9 does the same and then slowly makes its way up to 8.0x speed. this also occurs when burning music cd-r. the result is a movie that doesnt play all the well a few skips when viewed in a stand alone dvd player.

I have tried everthing i could find to try and fix it. switching the ata cables changing the spot u know ata 1 or 2. checking to see if it was in pio mode even blowing air inside of it to try and clean it out. i got one of those eye cleaner cds and that didnt help. desperate for any answers or any others with similar stories. im getting another drive but i dont want the same prob to happen. the first drive was a emprex 4x speed drive, the new one im currently using is a memorex true 8x drive. help please

what brand of dvd media are you using? it could be a dvd media problem that you're having with the skipping. your memorex drive is a REBADGED NEC burner. if DMA MODE is ENABLED then something could be wrong with the drive. i'd suggest you return the drive if it's still under warranty or get a refund then buy yourself a BENQ 1620 from Newegg.com which is going for $44.99.

If its a nec drive then thats the way it supposed to burn dvdr at 8x,most likely its poor quality media you are using, try maxell made in japan.

  5. Hi Ghostface

you could try updating the firmware for your drive this will make it more compatiable with the latest media for you make of drive and also improve the drives burning ability, Check this site Firmware updates http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php
Also Take The Time To Register To Use The Forum And Check Other Users of the same drive as yours, Search the forum for your make and model

Please be aware that you flash your drive at your own risk

But If Done correctly i`m sure this will solve your problems

    Hope This helps
