  1. hi ! I have a NEC DVD recorder and when I try to burn some videos the max capacity for my dvd is 8.1 instead of 8.5. Any way to gain that space ?. Its not a rewritable DVD....

How can I solve it ?

Difference arises between computer terminology and the terminology manufacturers use.

    1000 Kb = 1024 Kb

1024 Kb is refreed to as 1000 Kb by maufacturers (as a marketing scheme)

    Hence do the calculation:

    1024 x 1024 x 1024 = 1000 x 1000 x 1000

    1.073741824 GB = 1 GB

    Therefore 8.5GB is actually:

    1GB/1.0737741824 x 8.5 = 7.92 GB approx

The same principles is with 4.7GB dvds which are actually 4.37GB.

Also, the same principle applies to hard drives.
