I have been converting movies for over two years and have used many different programs to do it. Some are free and others well we wont go into that. Of all the programs I have found for the money SVCD2DVD is by far the best that I have used even with its few problems.
For those of you who are thinking of purchasing this software...be aware that there is a slight learning curve and that you may have problems if you dont have the proper codec's loaded. Just because a movie plays on your computer just fine doesnt always mean that it will play in all DVD players after it has been converted. Many of the less expensive dvd players will play converted movies and the problems I have had is on the sony's, panasonics and some of the higher priced DVD players.
The only real problem that I have had is like many others is the Autofit not working correctly. The other day I tried to put 3 movies onto a DVD-5 and it converted to DVD format and said that it would fit...but in reality it was beyond the limitation of the dvd (4.3). I tried several times and each time it said it would fit. Two movies per DVD with menu was about the max.
Even with that slight problem I will be able to save a bunch of money since I now can put two movies per dvd. I normally purchase 500 blanks at a time and right now I am re-ripping many of my single DVD's and converting them to double feature DVD's. I have used a paint program to make my own backgrounds and then just use the menu function to add the title pictures. What I would like to see added would be the ability to add text as well and not just the pictures to the title.
Like I said other than a few minor problems the program is worth the 20 bucks to purchase except for the fact that I can only put it on 3 of my 11 computers.

Glad you like it!
On the autofit issue. What type of conversions are they? avi, mpeg? pal conversions?
Menu: By text do you mean text buttons? If so, that is the default, if not then you should add it in you background preparation stage. (at the moment)

i too found the auto fit made a slightly too big dvd-5 on a avi conversion.
but reduced it slightly with dvd shrink (set at 99.3% on svcd2dvd output).
