  1. I took some extras out using VobBlanker and then wanted to use DVD rebuilder with HC encoder to bring the final size to dvd5 limits. Right now it is 5.7 gigs. It errors out saying it is already a dvd5 size do you want to continue when say yes it quits or errors out.
Question, does dvd Rebuilder only work with untouched authored movies ? Is there a way to make it work after using VobBlanker? edit ini or something. Thanks

I always blank stuff out with VOBBlanker and then use DVDRebuilder and HC encoder. I ran into problems with the CCE encoder after I preprocessed a DVD with VOBBlanker. However, every DVD I tried worked fine with HC encoder, so I konw it works. I dont know how to fix your problem however. It might be in the ini file under the target sectors; read this: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=74356 go to the hidden settings part. maybe your target sectors size is larger than a DVD5 so even though its not DVD5, rebuilder thinks it is. I really have no idea and am taking a shot in the dark but I dunno, might work.

  3. yes thanks it worked, but it took like 3 hours on my 3 gigahertz computer and it was slightly better than Nero Recode which takes 20 mins for the same thing. Is there a way to make it faster ( this was 2 pass) for same quality, like make it to encode to another drive so it takes less time to write back. How much faster is CCE is it much different both quality and speed if someone could give a relative estimate? Thanks

you realize that it depends... on the source bitrate, compression, characteristics, etc.. CCE or other encoders are not a one-size-fits-all solution - in some cases, perhaps many cases, where compression is low and bitrate is high, your just as well off using shrink or recode or whatever. However on those tough ones, you will probably, and I empasize probably, better to use an encoder. There is some evidence that HC works better than CCE on those low bitrate sources, and CCE works better than HC on telecined stuff. It's just not simply 'encoders are better ' - it depends.

  5. Thanks, ya I meant relative to one situation. I get your point I have to use each depending on situation. So I have to have them all and use it accordingly, well then I have to test them all. One other question , I used high quality setting but there was a "scene detection" is that a higher quality setting?

Scene detection - Is that Nero recode? I haven't used it, but it sounds like the 'deep analysis' equivalent in Shrink. If it is, I only use it for compression settings greater than 90%. For that matter though, I encode anything greater than 90%with DVDRB/CCE. I don't think you will need that setting for anything that is 90% or greater. You'll never notice a difference.
